Shalini is not the only one who lives in a cramped tiny room in a Delhi slum with a family of five. She is treated as a burden by her illiterate parents who do not see any value in spending money on her education. Her only utility to her family is taking care of her younger siblings. She will be married off at the earliest opportunity.
It is for thousands of girls like Shalini that Prajna Foundation does the house to house canvassing about the importance of education for breaking the cycle of poverty and ignorance. The young children are admitted in the nearby government schools. They are given all necessary school supplies and in many case paid the school fees as well.
Since their parents are illiterate and there is hardly any space for studying at home, the children need teachers to help them with the home assignments and give them remedial tuitions. The foundation has established a world class, fully air-conditioned Digital Learning Centre near by. They are equipped with laptops, computers, advanced software, high-speed broadband Wi-Fi, and smart TVs to enhance education through ICT.
There are also music instruments, professional sound system, multi-purpose room for Dance, Music, Theatre, Yoga and Meditation for the wholistic development of a child. Various workshops on subjects like finance management, life skills and menstrual hygiene are conducted and free pads are given to the young girls.
Being a non-funded NGO, Prajna Foundation is totally dependent on philanthropists like you for transforming 1000 lives every year. Hence, your support is important.
